She was also inspired by other home play activity boxes, and wanted to bring play back to work. She studied high-performing teams like firehouses, sports teams, and theatre ensembles, which reinforced using play builds strong team cultures. Katie and Courtney met at a community center, where Katie was facilitating a play-based workshop. Courtney had just returned from a conference about the benefits of play as a science, and they realized they both valued and modeled play in different settings. Katie brought the idea and a prototype crate to Courtney, pitched her the idea, and asked Courtney to join the team. They left the meeting as business partners.
