Suzie's Studio in San Rafael currently provides space for independent dance teachers and performing artists to teach classes, practice and choreograph, offers dance performances by diverse dancers from around the world, and offers private dance… Suzie's Studio in San Rafael currently provides space for independent dance teachers and performing artists to teach classes, practice and choreograph, offers dance performances by diverse dancers from around the world, and offers private dance classes and lessons to the community. It holds nightly and week-end group classes in Mexican Folk Dance, Salsa, Bellydancing, Irish Dance, Ballroom, Bachata, Cumbia, Tai Chi, and Zumba. It is coming back quickly since the pandemic and has almost returned to full capacity.
I am applying for this grant to assist in my expansion of Suzie's Studio to an additional new and larger venue, Suzie's Studio's The Hidden City Ballroom, in a converted historic church in neighboring Point Richmond, California. Given that dance spaces are difficult to find and that commercial rents often rise beyond the income producing capacity of dance businesses, I and my husband just purchased this 100 year old church to offer a permanent larger space for dancers and performing artists in the Bay Area.
