YSS Waterworks is a servant of water. It vows to protect water resources and bring pure, safe drinking water closer to communities that need it most. YSS Waterworks promise to deliver the highest quality bottled spring water in the United States through:
1. Sustainable Sourcing. Our water is sourced responsibly and our sourcing method does not cause any harm to the environment.
2. Carbon-neutral Manufacturing. We strive to be 100% solar-powered and invest in reforestation projects for excess carbon emission.
3. Zero-waste packaging. We are transforming our bottle to be 100% recycled, 100% recyclable, and naturally biodegradable.
4. Low-emission Shipping. We are developing our own logistics system that uses energy-saving vehicles and optimized shipping routes.
5. Community empowerment. We support disaster relief operations by providing water in times of emergency. 20% of our revenue supports YSS Foundation to empower youth in entrepreneurship and in making healthy financial habits.
How we started
When the COVID-19 pandemic crippled the world, I struggled to balance my nursing career, parenting, and running a non-profit organization that empowers youth to make healthy financial habits. Unfortunately, as schools stopped their operations due to the pandemic, our funding sources for the non-profit started to dwindle.
Instead of losing hope, I persisted on educating my 3 children about financial wellness, and in the midst of COVID-19, my twin boys, at the age of 20, launched their very first business-- a drinking water distribution company. It is at this critical time that I realized the looming water scarcity in the country when quality bottled water was nearly impossible to buy at neighborhood grocery stores and bodegas. My twins' business proved to be an unvoiced need in the community.
This became my "Aha!" moment. What if we can use the revenue from this water business to fund the non-profit's operations? What if we can start our own sustainable private label water and provide drinking water to those without access to it? With little else to do during the pandemic, we packed our bags and took a road trip to taste spring water in upstate New York.
Fast forward to October 1, 2020, what started out as a road trip to taste the water in Poestenkill, New York led me to become the first African-American woman in New York to own and operate a water bottling company.
