WE ROAM FREELY (WRF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in April 2019, is dedicated to empowering Black Indigenous women and non-binary artists of color. Our mission is to combat inequality in the arts by redistributing resources, lowering barriers to entry, and uplifting women and non-binary artists of color. WRF is focused on "leveling the playing field" by providing opportunities for artists to be seen and heard through exhibits, podcasts, and networking. We further support our artists through professional development opportunities that help them learn how to manage the business of art and offer modest artist grants and residencies. By doing so, WRF aims to diversify the arts making it accessible to communities who in the past have had limited exposure to the field.
We offer a variety of programs created to raise the profile of BIPOC women and non-binary artists to the world and support them on their journey. In just two years, we have supported over 40 artists in a variety of mediums, including paint, photography, graphic art, film, mixed media, dance, poetry, and much more. In 2019, we presented 2 Exhibits, 2 community events in partnership with Sehiii Gallery, and a podcast introducing the organization to the world.
