How we got so sweet:
In 2009, I joined the Peace Corps to volunteer and teach small business development to underserved Hindu women. To qualify, you must serve for 2 years and 3-months, which also meant I had minimal contact with my family. To help me feel at home, every few months my Great Uncle Ray would ship me packages of his homemade peanut brittle.
Walking through the settlement, families would invite me in to eat, laugh, and share sweets. I soon realized peanut brittle brought more than a full stomach, it brought the community together.
Soon I befriended a local woman who was trying to start her own business. I had the privilege of mentoring her but could only do so much and my time volunteering was soon up.
In 2011, after I returned, we continued to stay in touch but her struggles were all that I could think about and felt compelled to continue to help.
Remembering what brought us together, I created a crowdfunding campaign for her using the brittle to thank those who donated. After raising 12,000 FJD, she now has a successful business and supports her family!
Our nutty story doesn't end there...soon after, my """crowd"""" asked for more. The day I made Bacon Pecan Brittle was the day my business was born. I named it after my Great Uncle Ray in honor of our sweet friendship! As Seen on The Hallmark Channel
