NadiraBag focuses on handmade and unique products, as well as a customized product. Every bag is different; every bag is made completely by hand and in the U.S.
I grew up in Marrakesh, Morocco, and come from a family of craftspeople where rug making and working with leather is part of my family tradition. At the age of twelve, I learned the trade of making bags and working with leather while I was helping my father repairing vintage leather bags, leather poufs, pillows and rugs and serving customers all over the world from my father's shop in the Marrakesh bazaar.
With a dream of venturing beyond my father's shop, I came to the U.S. in April 2009 and enrolled at LaGuardia Community College in New York City as an undergraduate student majoring in accounting. While studying; I was still connecting to designing and making my handcrafted goods as I had always done in Morocco.
In 2012, I was the grand prize winner of Capital One's Student Design Entrepreneur Challenge for $1,000 to help launch my leather bags business and I received free business counseling. I am
also the recipient of the Integrity Award from Accion Loan Company. In addition to $5,000 to kick off my business from the Women Enterprise Action Loan Fund with zero interest.
My brother would come for business a few times a year and during his visit, I gave him the bags I had made to sell at the flea market in Williamsburg and at Chelsea Market. The decision to start my own business was solidified when every single bag was sold at the flea market in Williamsburg and at Chelsea Market. That's when I realized I had something special.
