Additionally, my husband (Kemmie) had been doing all he could to get his record expunged as he had a desire to simply be able to wear a shirt and tie to work and do away with work that was hard on his body. Coincidently, Kemmie was involved in a hit and run accident leaving him disabled an unable to weld.
Kemmie came in with ribs and asked me to cook some sides. I really didn't want to sell food as I came from a nonprofit background and rarely utilized social media. I had no idea how we would even get the word out. But by faith we sold dinners and actually sold out on our first try. Bills mounted and I still hadn't found a job so we gave the dinner sales another try. We sold out again, and again, and again. Eventually we began catering and had won a place in the hearts and bellys of Muskegon citizens.
An opportunity to operate a brick and mortar fell in our laps and as scared as we both were, we leaned on faith and moved forward with the opportunity. Within one month, we had turned a very dismal dining location into a popular eatery where we welcomed all people. It was our version of "Cheers""....where everybody knows your name
